Step 1: Are you absolutely
sure? Or are you really saying that you don’t like the fact that s/he remarks on your consistent lateness and is unhappy with the quality of your sales forecast? Be grateful that s/he still has some of the discipline of a real leader.
Step 2: Have you cut them a bit of slack? Because their boss is putting them under enormous
pressure because of the poor sales
figures? Might be worth doing and appreciating that they are protecting you from a lot of the stress.
Step 3: So you are certain they are performing
badly. What about a simple process conversation i.e. a heart-to-heart about what's not working. Choose your time and place. Stay calm, focus on the changes you want...
Step 4: So that hasn’t
worked? And it's not just you who is having problems? So what do you want to
achieve? Do you want them out of that role? Out of the company? Worth thinking through...
Step 5: You need
evidence of the problem. What exactly is the problem? Facts, not just gossip.
Step 6: You need to escalate the situation given that your own conversations haven't worked to date.
Step 7: And if you can
do that diplomatically, discretely and with integrity on all sides.... well you are clearly the person for the job.
