Ask the Team

On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is dire/miserable/awful and 10 is outstanding, ask the team to give a number for:

-themselves as a High Performance Team (10=perfect)
-you as their leader (10=perfect)
-quality of team meetings (10=no improvement possible)
-service provided to rest of the organisation (10=no improvement possible).

If anything less than a 10 is given, ask what needs to be done to close the gap? Then close that gap ASAP.

Leadership is a Mindset

not a management model, nor a job title, nor 'waiting for permission'. Leadership is:
making a decision to do something even if you don't know if you are 'right'
taking accountability even when you haven't been given permission
doing what you believe is right even when you don't have the support of the majority
being one of the few even when it would be a heck of a lot more comfortable to be one of the many

5 Ways to be an even Better Leader

1.Encourage rather than dissuade. Catch people doing things right.
2.Listen rather than lecture. Seek to understand.
3.Model rather than muddle. What are the behaviours you seek? Demonstrate them.
4.Recognise and support difference. Do you really want everybody to be like you?
5.Stop talking about it: do it. Lead is a verb.
