- Productivity is what times when;
- What is what has/needs to be done (e.g. pay a utility bill) and what you want to do (e.g. start learning the guitar);
- Capture what has to be done on a single list: call this your Master list;
- Brainstorm what you want to do (and it may flush out a few further 'have to do's) in the six core areas of your Life-your Personal Compass:
- Career: where do I want my career to go?
- Mind/Body: what next for super wellness?
- Finance: what's their state and what next?
- Relationships: which need some time?
- Fun: am I having fun? If not, why not?
- Contribution: how can I give back?
- Add the Personal Compass actions to your Master List ;
- Review your Master List (that's 1 list in 1 place of all you need to do and want to do) at the end of every day;
- Generate clear, specific actions;
- Break big actions down into smaller ones;
- If you take on a new action (learn yoga) , drop another one (go to Pilate's class). Get real!
- Allocate the action a date and time when you will do it.
- Build peace and space to think and do your best work into your day by batching. Batch e-mail in particular. Don't be constantly checking it.
- Productivity is dependent on wellness: to make the best decisions and to work with focus and stamina. Take breaks, go home on time. Get enough sleep.
- Productivity is not 'getting stuff done', It is getting the right stuff done.
- Too many productivity 'techniques' can make you unproductive. Keep It simple.
